Yosemite Valley - Classic 1-Day
Experience Yosemite Valley's most iconic sights: El Capitan, Half Dome views, Yosemite Falls, and Mirror Lake. Perfect one-day introduction to the park's granite cliffs and waterfalls.
Unscheduled
Valley View
Classic viewpoint with El Capitan and Bridalveil Fall framing the valley. Often reflected in the Merced River.
Best light in early morning. Small pullout parking area fills quickly.
El Capitan Meadow
Look up at the sheer 3,000-foot granite face of El Capitan. In climbing season, use binoculars to spot climbers on the wall.
Bring binoculars! Climbers are often visible, especially on the Nose route.
Lower Yosemite Falls Trail
Easy 1-mile loop to the base of Lower Yosemite Falls. Combined with Upper Falls, it's North America's tallest waterfall at 2,425 feet.
Peak flow in late spring. Falls may dry up by late summer. Prepare to get misty at the base!
Yosemite Village Lunch
Village Grill, Degnan's Kitchen, or pack a picnic. Visit the Ansel Adams Gallery and Visitor Center.
The village store has picnic supplies. Eat outdoors to watch for wildlife.
Mirror Lake Loop
Easy 5-mile loop around Mirror Lake with stunning Half Dome reflections. Lake is seasonal (spring and early summer best).
Take the shuttle to trailhead (Mirror Lake stop). In fall, the 'lake' becomes a meadow but still scenic.
Tunnel View
The most famous view in Yosemite - El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall in one frame. Featured in countless photographs.
Always crowded but worth it. Sunset light is magical here.
Sunset at Valley View
Return to Valley View for golden hour light on El Capitan and Cathedral Rocks.
Magic light occurs about an hour before sunset. El Capitan glows orange.
